Newly fertilized eggs are injected with desired DNA (transgene), and the eggs are placed into the oviduct of a
pseudopregnant female mouse. In about 20—50% of the treated eggs, DNA is integrated into the mouse chromosomes by naturally occurring DNA repair enzymes. If the integrated DNA is inserted into the germ-line cells, the transgene will be inherited.
