(a) Arsenic is a metabolic poison that disrupts ATP synthesis in cells.  Based on that short description, predict which organelle arsenic most directly affects. (b) Arsenic-based compounds have been used to treat certain types of cancer.  Why might you think these drugs are useful against certain cancers?

Please help this is urgent!

a) mitochondria, since it is the main site of ATP synthesis
b) they may disrupt ATP synthesis in cancerous cells (not that I know how they target cancerous cells only)

Arsenic and phosphorus have very similar chemical properties. If you look at the periodic table As is right below P. Therefore As can be substituted wherever a P can be present. A good example is ATP which has 3 P originally but if there is enough As present and not P present then As can take the place of P. If As is poisonous then this could be helpful when exposed to cancer cell causing apoptosis.
