It's conservation of momentum. Initial momentum=Final momentum. Momentum=mass times velocity, so this equation is:

(m1)(v1initial)+(m2)(v2initial) = (m1)(v1final) + (m2)(v2final)

Make m1=40kg, m2=2000kg, v1final=800m/s. v1initial=0 because the projectile is initially at rest. Then solve for v2final, it should be negative.
