Is there a maximum velocity in a frictionless environment when an object is pulled by a gravitational constant?

Meaning, can a gravitational body exert a constant force on an object such that it accelerates forever?  Or is there some maximum velocity the object achieves?  If so, what determines the max velocity?

The maximum velocity that can be achieved by a gravitational force is the speed of light.  That can happen to matter falling into a black hole.
