when you climb it seems that your ears pop why is that? is there a relationship between altitude and atmospheric pressure and if so what is it?

As you climb in altitude there is less atmosphere over you, therefore less atmospheric pressure on you.

The higher you go up the atmospheric pressure decreases.  For example the atmospheric pressure on the top of mount everest is very close to zero..  Your ears pop because there is a change in the atmosheric pressure.
