1) How might anaemia, polycythaemia, low erythropoietin levels, splenectomy and infection affect blood flow? Why? (5 marks)

2) How and why would aortic valve stenosis be expected to affect stroke volume? (2 marks)

3) Explain how the three compensatory mechanisms (altered pre-load, contractility and afterload) caused an increase in blood flow in the computer simulation which mimicked atherosclerosis. (3 marks)

4) Would parasympathetic stimulation of the heart affect the Starling relationship between end diastolic volume (EDV) and stroke volume (SV)? In other words, what would be expected to happen to the Starling Curve if you increased or decreased parasympathetic stimulation of the heart? (2 marks)

Thanks.
