1. Suggest reasons why the information represented in the pyramid of numbers of animals of one of the ecosystems you studied may not truly represent that ecosystem.
2. Does the population size increase or decrease at higher trophic levels in the pyramid of numbers of and ecosystem consisting of a tree, insects (that are herbivores) and birds feeding on the insects? Explain your answer (why).
3. What might happen to an ecological pyramid of numbers in a forest ecosystem if most of the deer were killed due to hunting by people and disease?
4. What would happen to an ecosystem if the decomposers disappeared?
5. Could there be a food chain without herbivores and carnivores? Explain why or why not.

1. Because ecosystems change along with the animals they adapt and change habatats
2. Population sizes decrease at higher trophic levels. If they increased the insects population would decrease meaning there would be less food available for the birds so their population size would then decrease. Look at the relationships between predator and prey species for more information
3. The predator numbers for the deer will start to drop, due to a lack of food available. The vegetation that deer eat will increase, due to a lack of deer to eat it & so it will thrive untamed. This may cause certain animals to thrive & increase thei
4. If all the decomposers were to die, there would be no organic nutrients and all the dead plants would ruin the animals' habitat; the ecosystem would be filled with plant and animal waste, and there would be no decomposition of waste material.
5. No they are part of the cycle if one thing is out of since with the cycle it will be bad for the system
