Let's take 1 litre of this solution.

Mass of this litre is 1043.2 g

This contains 0.335 mol of lactose. Lactose is C12H22O11, its molar mass 342.30 g/mol.

Mass of 0.335 mol = 0.335 \(\times\) 342.30 = 114.67 g

Therefore, the 1 litre of solution, mass total 1043.2 g = 114.67 g lactose and 928.53 g H2O.

You have 0.335 mol lactose dissolved in 928.53 g of H2O

Molality is moles of solute dissolved in 1 kg solvent, which is 1000 g solvent.

Molality = (0.335 \(\times\) 1000) / 928.53 = 0.360 m

\(\therefore\) the molality = 0.360 m
