Here's the whole question:

If a pesticide kills 99.9% of a specific species of insect, which of the following best explains why, if they share a universal genetic code, some of the insects survived?

1)There were recessive genetic disorders in the insects.
2)Some insects adapted to the pesticide.
3)The pesticide caused all of the survivors to mutate.
4)There was genetic variation within the population.
