I'm in the midst of doing an optimization problem to prepare for my calculus final but I'm having a problem with basic algebra.

9(1350)/y + 6y = 1404

How do i isolate y? What is y equal to?

I feel like a dummy but I cant figure it out!

Thank you
Hmm.. I wonder how they expect us to solve this without a calculator. The numbers are big! Well thanks for the answer.

E.C. y<>0 (NON zero, y is in a denominator)

you multiply by y

9 * 1350 + 6 * y *y = 1404 *y

6 *y*y - 1404 *y + 9 *1350 = 0

y *y - 234 *y + 2025 = 0

y+6y=1404/9(1350)
7y=1404/9(1350)

re arrange the equation to get:
6y^2-1404y+12150=0
the put it into the quadratic formula y=(-b+/-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a
where a is the coefficient of your y^2 term, b is the coefficient of your y term, and c is 12150.
this gives you an answer of y = 225 and y = 9
