1. Examine the three diagrams of hypothetical moose populations. What are the two different distribution patterns shown?

2. The shaded parts of the diagrams represent the transects that were used to sample each population. calculate the area per transect. (1.0 cm represents 1.0km)
    Hint: Area per transect is length x width. Use a ruler.

3. For each hypothetical population, count the moose within each transect

4. For each hypothetical population, calculate the average number of moose per transect

5. Calculate the average density of each hypothetical moose

I'll post the answers as soon as I get my papers back. I'm in doubt about question 5.
I'm not sure if I need to count the moose on each diagram and use that for the equation or just the ones on the transects. ~_~

Please correct me if I am wrong but #5 should be....

Pattern 1: Dp = 4.7moose/4.8km2  Dp = 0.98 moose/km2
Pattern 2: Dp = 7.3 moose/4.8km2  Dp = 1.5 moose/km2
Pattern 3: Dp = 8.5 moose/4.8km2  Dp  = 1.77 moose/km2

Okay these are the correct answers, sorry, made a mistake above.

Excuse me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t pattern 3 have 59 moos in all 6 transects. From the first transect to the last it’s 9, 20, 5, 14, 8 and 3. 9+20+5+14+8+3=59. Thus 59/6=9.8 followed by the Dp which is 9.8/4.8km2 =2.04 = 2
