2. It is important that the ribosomes are located on the endoplasmic reticulum so that translated mRNA into peptides are immediately transported into the endoplasmic reticulum where they are prepared for the transport of these nascent proteins. Recall that a ribosome only binds to the ER once it begins to synthesize a protein destined for the secretory pathway.
