Getting your 'just deserts' is a term meaning getting what you deserve - or Karma as a certain religion calls it.

CON
1) It's not concerned with rehabilitation, it's only about "an eye for an eye" punishment. Step out of line and you will get whacked kind of thing.
2) It has no thought for the future of the individual, and it does not necessarily discriminate between crimes. That is, it does nothing to assure that the individual won't commit the same crime in a more evasive way. They will still commit the crime, but will be more careful about it because they don't want the punishment. The criminal does not see the act as "wrong" in a moral sense, they only see it as wrong because the people punishing him say it's wrong, and the criminal then feels even more disconnected with society.
3) There is no deterrence except for the memory of a previous punishment. So first-time offenders have no reason to fear this type of punishment.

PRO
1) Vengeance feels good to society.
2) Punishment is warranted in many cases.
3) It may help with recividism.
