i don't know how to do this question , i don't really understand it, like i know how to do the one with the proton given but not this,

can you please explain the steps to do this,

Look at these examples

In each of the following radioactive decay processes, supply the missing particle
a.  60Co → 60Ni + ___
b.  97Tc + ___ → 97Mo
c.  99Tc → 99Ru + ___
d.  239Pu → 235U + ___

Answers:

a.  b (beta, not a b)
b.  b (beta, not a b)
c.  b (beta, not a b)
d.  a (alpha, not an a)

Hi nevada,

You can find the number of proton by looking for those elements in the periodic table (Ga has 31 protons, and Ge has 32).
This looks like Beta- decay, where one of the neutron is converted to a proton and emits an electron is the process.
7331Ga   ---->   7331Ge + e

i found Pt =78 and Os=76

i got 2e?
 is that correct?

Hi nevada,

You need to determine which type of decay Pt underwent. Alpha decay is when the mass decrease by 4 and the number of proton decrease by 2. Beta (positive or negative) decay is when the mass stay the same and the number of proton either increase or decrease, the an electron or positron is emitted as a result. Another type of Beta decay is electron capture, which the proton is converted to a neutron. In this case, the mass decrease by 4 and the number of proton decrease by 2, which is an alpha decay:
