New research has shown that children with autism have a very high number of synapses - connections between neurons in the brain. So, researchers have developed a new drug that promotes synaptic pruning, and reverses autistic-like behaviour in mice.

Yeah, counter intuitive. What if these extra synapses are just the next evolutionary step, and we might be preventing it with no idea what it'll actually do for our future? What if the problems we observe now are the necessary strengths future generations will need to do things like invent effective space travel? Learn to speak to aliens? Harness new alternative energies? Etc.
