1. A terrestrial biome dominated by grasses and forbs. Typically colder winters, hot summers, and overall relatively low rainfall.

2. Grasslands growing in middle latitudes that receive between 300 and 1,000 mm of annual precipitation, with maximum precipitation usually falling during the summer months.
