1) Fluid that surrounds the exterior of the brain and spinal cord and absorbs physical shocks to the brain resulting from sudden movements or blows to the head.

2) A clear, colorless bodily fluid produced in the choroid plexus of the brain that acts as a cushion or buffer for the cortex, providing a basic mechanical and immunological protection to the brain inside the skull.
