1. A diagram that depicts the wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation that are absorbed by a pigment.

2. a series of dark lines (i.e., missing parts) of a continuous spectrum; produced by placing a gas between the continuous spectrum source and the observer; also known as a dark-line spectrum.
