The largest genome project in history, which was a 13-year effort coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health. The goals of the project were to identify all human genes, to sequence the entire human genome, to address the legal and ethical implications resulting from the project, and to develop programs to manage the information gathered from the project.
