“Water-fearing”—molecules that are not attracted to water molecules. Such molecules are composed predominantly of carbon and hydrogen and are relatively insoluble in water. Because carbon–carbon and carbon–hydrogen bonds are nonpolar, the atoms in such compounds are electrically neutral.
