1. An exceptionally large dose, as of a drug or vitamin.

2. A quantity of vitamin or mineral that exceeds the Recommended Daily Amount (RDA) by a factor of 10 or more. Megadoses may be used to treat nutrient deficiencies and are sometimes prescribed for those with particular diseases. However, megadoses should be used cautiously because some vitamins and minerals are toxic in large doses.
