Also called gel shift or electrophoretic mobility shift is a method for detecting DNA-binding proteins. A band shift is observed when a protein forms a complex with a DNA fragment, because complexes of protein and DNA migrate through a non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel more slowly than free DNA fragments or double-stranded oligonucleotides.
