1) Depression is characterized by low mood and anhedonia( lack of enjoyment) lasting greater than two weeks. Poor sleep, reduced energy, concentration and change in appetite may also be present.

2) The term depression refers to a mood state most commonly characterized by sadness. However, when a person is diagnosed with a depressive disorder, these feelings are more profound and long term, and interfere with daily life and normal functioning.
