Knowledge that depends as much on whom we are as it does on what the world is actually like. Kierkegaard, writing as Johannes Climacus, famously declared that “truth is subjectivity”—a startling claim, perhaps best understood along the lines of his oft-stated motto, “only the truth that edifies is truth, for you.”
