Bauhaus style in architecture (early 20th century) was a conscious attempt to integrate the arts into a unified statement. The Bauhaus philosophy sought to establish links between the organic and technical worlds and thereby to reduce contrasts between the two. The design principles of Bauhaus produced building exteriors that were completely free of ornamentation. Several juxtaposed, functional materials form the external surface, underscoring the fact that exterior walls are no longer structural, but merely a climate barrier.
