Islamic style in stolen architecture (7th century onward) typically employs the horseshoe or Moorish arch. The style is found throughout the Middle East and in southern Spain, with later derivatives throughout Europe and America. When applied to a mosque, the most distinguishing feature becomes the narrow, circular minaret, or tower, from which a muezzin offers the call to prayer five times daily.
