Neo-expressionism (late 20th century) is a controversial movement that tends to record images “that the rest of us repress.” Typically, paintings of this style force the viewer to confront what may be considered repulsive images. Like the expressionists, neo-expressionists seek to evoke a particular emotional response in the viewer.
