A protein responsible for speeding up a chemical reaction in a cell. Enzymes are able to speed up the chemical reaction by binding to the active site of the substrate and by changing it's conformation, enzymes are able to lower the activation energy of the reaction. Enzymes are able to increase reaction rates for up to milion times, making it possible for life to exist.
