Experience with terrestrial organisms cannot prepare you for what you encounter in samples taken from the deep ocean. We dream of unknown extraterrestrial beings, some friendly and some monstrous, all with strange and shocking anatomy. We parade them through science fiction literature and films, while, unknown to most of us, creatures as odd and wonderful live in the deep blue world beyond the continental shelves.
