What is the absolute least number of males and females required to repopulate without causing gene pool problems?

To be safe, no first cousins "interact" but anyone farther removed can.
I heard 14 pairs would do it but maybe a different ratio of males to females would make a difference. Not planning on destroying the world and this seems odd as a first question to ask after just joining the site today- but still. Any thoughts, calculations, functions for me to use? This isn't homework so no rush.

Thanks

Hello Nate,

I think this link will help you: http://www.fao.org/docrep/006/x3840e/X3840E07.htm

If I understood correctly, you're asking, how many people are required to prevent a population bottleneck? I sense that you're learning this for your own sake, and that it's not an assignment? Therefore, I would assume you'd have a better understanding of the jargon presented in the link.
