I need to find the probability of a binomial random variable where P(x>=1)  n=4  p=0.15
please leave answers and explanations.

the binomial distribution
n = number of "trials" =4
p = probability of "success" on a single trial  = 0.15
q = 1 - p = probability of "failure" on a single trial  =  0.85

the formula for x successes in n trials is given by

P
  • = nCx*p^x*q^(1-x)

P[x>1] = 1 - { P[0] + P[1] }

= 1 - [4C0*0.15^0*0.85^4 + 4C1*0.15*0.85^3]

= 1 - [0.85^4 + 4*0.15*0.85^3]

= 0.1095 or 10.95 %
