A major symptom affecting approximately 70% of people with narcolepsy, a neurological disorder. It involves the intrusion of REM, or dreaming sleep, while a person is fully awake and alert. Skeletal muscles become suddenly paralyzed; it can be as subtle as a sagging jaw and slurred speech, or as dramatic as a full-body fall. Common triggers are laughter, anger, and surprise.
