Definition for Epic Theatre
From Biology Forums Dictionary
Epic theatre (mid-20th century) is singularly associated with Bertholt Brecht (1898-1956). Epic theatre draws heavily on expressionism and rests on complex theories about theatre and its relationship to life. It is a revolt against dramatic theatre and attempts to move the audience out of the role of passive spectator and into a more dynamic relationship with the play. It is a highly presentational theatrical style and frequently involves narration and changes of time and place that might be accomplished with nothing more than an explanatory sentence.
