Intellectual disability, used to go by the name of mental retardation. It affects about 8 million American of all ages or 1 out 10 American families. It will affect people before they are 18 years old, with a wide rage of different conditions, levels and types.

Intellectual disability is defined by a person having a below average IQ and is limited in different ability. For example, getting along with people in school activities or social events, communication and self care. Children with intellectual disability is able to learn new skills but it will take them more time to develop the skill verse a child that does not have an intellectual disability.

Many different factors can cause intellectual disability. For example genetic, physical and/or social. Intellectual disability, is when the persons is limited on both adaptive behavior and intellectual functioning. This will include any type of practical or social skills.
