Definition for Lucretius

Lucretius (50 B.C.E. to ?): Roman poet and philosopher. His major work is the poem "On the Nature of Things," in which he tried to popularize the philosophical theories of Democritus and Epicurus on the origin of the universe, rejecting and condemning religious belief as the one great source of human wickedness and misery. Without Philosophy, Lucretius declared, “all life is a struggle in the dark.”
