Definition for Sylvian fissure

From Biology Forums Dictionary

The Sylvian Fissure forms the superior border of the Temporal lobe. The Sylvian Fissure has two anterior ends: the medial and lateral end.

The medial end of the Sylvian Fissure is defined by a line drawn between the Lateral Olfactory Striae and the ambient gyrus.

The lateral end of the Sylvian Fissure is the origin of the Horizontal Ramus or the common trunk of the Horizontal Ramus and the Ascending Ramus. The posterior end of the Sylvian Fissure is ending with the Angular sulcus as a single end or ending with both Angular sulcus and Anterior Occipital sulcus as double ends. The latter is the most encountered situation.
