Video art (late 20th century) is a wide-ranging genre of sculpture emerging from the rebellion of the 1960s as a reaction against conventional broadcast television. Since then, inexpensive portable recording and playback video equipment have made it possible for this art form to flourish. Video art has moved from a nearly photojournalistic form to one in which outlandish experiments exploit new dimensions in hardware and imagery.
