You are a professional nurse caring for Mr. R, a 58-year-old patient who recently underwent surgery for colon cancer that resulted in a temporary colostomy. Select one of the nursing theories from our textbook and address the following: How would you provide professional nursing care for Mr. R. using the theory you have selected? Be sure to use terminology from the selected nursing theory to explain your interventions. How can patient-centered care and the patient's cultural preferences be enhanced by use of this theory? Relate applications of legal and/or ethical standards to this case study. There are various theories that address the progressions that attendants experience amid their expert improvement. Similarly as a kid experts how to sit, creep, stand, walk, and run, so do medical caretakers pick up ability and trust in their practice (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2016). According to Orem’s self-care deficit theory, the purpose of nursing is to help people meet their self-care needs. The theory focuses on persons “in society affected by human or environmental conditions associated with their states of health or their requirements for health care that result in an inability to provide continuously for themselves the amount and quality of self-care they require” (Hood, 2014 p. 136). It includes relative or patients to give instruction. Orem’s theory uses five key concepts which are Self-care which is learned conduct that an individual achieves himself that contributes to health; Self-care deficit which is a rapport between activities that an individual should take for healthy working and the abilities for action; Self-care requisites which is a need that are widespread or linked with improvement of or deviation from health; Agency which is competence to employ in self-care (Hood, 2014 p. 136). I will give proficient nursing consideration to Mr. R with this model by permitting Mr. R to perform self-care to improve his freedom and to allow him to take an interest in his human services upkeep and choices. I will likewise instruct persistent on dealing with self and results of rebelliousness to treatment. Orem's Self-care shortages propose self-mind as the exercises did by the person to keep up their own wellbeing (Hood, 2014 p. 136). The self-mind organization is the obtained capacity to play out the self-care and this will be influenced by the fundamental molding components, for example, age, sexual orientation, medicinal services framework, family framework. In light of this, I will consider Mr. R age, sexual orientation, human services framework, the family framework in his treatment procedure. Patient-centered care and the patient's cultural preferences are enhanced by the use of this theory because people learn self-care activities as they mature. Culture, Society, and family customs play key roles in determining individual self-care activities (Hood, 2014 p. 136). In Mr. R case study this theory will help him to take care of temporary colostomy in everyday basis because Mr. R will be going home with his colostomy bag and it is very important for him to self-care. This will help him to gain his independence and proper skin care. However, in some cultures patient does not want their body to be touched by anyone caretakers. In this situation, it is a very important to nurse to teach the patient how to self-care. Legal and/or ethical standards to this case study are what right does Mr. R have? Patient has right to confidentiality, which means Mr. R can decide that health care information is to remain confidential and determine what can be shared and with whom, Mr. R has right to make a rational unconstrained decision regarding his surgery or any health issue.
