SlideshowReport

Long-day stimulation of flower development in Arabidopsis.

Description
(a) During short days, the transcription factor CONSTANS (CO) does not reach threshold levels, in part because of short day length and in part because it is degraded in the dark. In long days, CO accumulates to relatively high levels and triggers flowering. (b) The accumulation of CO activates the FT gene, and the FT protein produced travels in the phloem to shoot meristems to induce flower formation.
