Phlebotomy.

Description
This patient is having blood drawn. The lavender-top tube is used for a complete blood count. The red-top tube is used for blood chemistry tests. The technician placed a tourniquet around the patient’s upper arm to distend the veins in the lower arm. The patient’s arm is supported to keep the elbow straight so that the needle goes into the lumen of the vein, not through it. A tube is placed into the plastic holder and the vacuum draws blood into the tube. The tubes of blood are sent to the laboratory for testing.
