Strip Farming

Description
Rotating different crops in a field through the years can help prevent selective nutrient depletion. Corn and soybeans are a good example. Corn decreases soil nitrogen levels, but soybeans harbor nitrogen-fixing bacteria on their roots. If soybeans and corn are planted alternately over time in the same field, the soil’s nitrogen levels can be maintained. Reducing tillage and adding organic wastes helps maintain or increase the organic content of soils
