Dopamine Transporters, Methamphetamine Abuse, and Parkinson’s Disease

Description
The scans show concentrations of dopamine transporters from a control subject, a subject who had previously abused methamphetamine, and a subject with Parkinson’s disease. Decreased concentrations of dopamine transporters indicate loss of dopaminergic terminals. (From McCann, U. D., Wong, D. F., Yokoi, F., et al. Journal of Neuroscience, 1998, 18, 8417–8422.
