Chytrids growing on a freshwater protist

Description
The colourless chytrids produce hyphae that penetrate the cellulose cell walls of the dinoflagellate Ceratium hirundinella, absorbing organic materials from the alga. Chytrids use these materials to produce spherical flagellate spores that swim away to attack other algal cells.
