A nursing student is preparing to take the NCLEX-PN and has a hectic schedule that changes frequently. The student works with computers at the hospital. Which review material has the potential to be the most effective for the student?

  A) The online review written by seasoned nursing educators using the most recent NCLEX-PN test plan offering self-paced study plans, access to live help 24 hours/day, computerized adaptive testing, full-length study materials, and quizzes
  B) A local review provided over a week, which is highly recommended by the hospital that the student is employed offering a review book, computerized testing software, and a money back guarantee if the nurse fails the examination
  C) Free videos online reviewing content for the NCLEX-PN, which may be downloaded into an audio format that the student could listen to while exercising or driving, and a list of Web sites offering free practice questions and rationales
  D) A review book not cross-referenced to nursing texts from a reputable publisher written by seasoned nursing educators using the most recent NCLEX-PN test plan with a CD containing practice questions in the various question formats and rationales for all answers

Feedback:
The nursing student has a hectic schedule, is computer literate, and has access to the computer, making the online review the best option since it is written by seasoned educators using the most current NCLEX-PN test plan, and it offers a self-paced study, full-length study materials, computerized adaptive testing and quizzes and live help any time the student may need it. The local review requires the student being able to take off from work, which does not seem to be an option. The review book offered with the live review does not state if it is cross-referenced to nursing texts. There is no guarantee that every computer the student uses could support the software that comes with the review book. The free videos online for an NCLEX-PN review do not state what test plan was used or what credentials the speakers have that lead the study. There is no supporting evidence that the free practice questions offered from the list of Web sites were written to the most recent test plan or by reputable writers. Also, there is no opportunity to ask questions during the review process when using the free videos and practice questions. The review book listed has one notable downfall, which is it does not offer cross-referencing to nursing texts, so if the student does not understand a particular topic, the student has no way of getting additional help.
