False. Bitewing image receptor placement is often closer to the teeth, and the central ray of the x-ray beam can be directed at a more ideal angle than for periapical radiographs. With this ideal image receptor placement, the bitewing radiograph often images decay and the height of the alveolar bone crest better than periapical radiographs.
