A Term infants who are exclusively breastfed have adequate iron stored until they
are age 6 months.
B Iron-fortified formula will meet the infant's initial iron requirements. Solid foods
added to the diet maintain iron needs as formula intake decreases.
C Iron supplements are not necessary for adequate teething.
D Vitamins and minerals are added to processed formulas and cereals. It should not
be necessary for the child to receive a multivitamin with iron unless the infant is
at risk for undernutrition.
