The Romberg test assesses cerebellar functioning and is performed by asking the child to stand, shut the eyes, and then hold the arms outstretched in front. A normal result is performing these actions without swaying. Looking at facial expressions tests cranial nerve VII. The finger-to-nose test also assesses cerebellar function. Observing posture and gain gives information about the child's musculoskeletal system.
