Dr. Ravenclaw has two different introductory psychology classes. When she gives the midterm to one class, she tells them that answering the questions will involve a great deal of linguistic fluency and that females tend to outperform males on tests involving linguistic fluency. When Dr. Ravenclaw gives the midterm to the second class, she does not make this same statement about linguistic fluency to the class. What would you predict, given the concept of stereotype vulnerability?

Males in the first class will perform better, because of the challenge associated with the statements made by Dr. Ravenclaw.

Males in the first class will perform more poorly, because they will worry that others will blame their failure on their sex.

Females in the first class will do more poorly, because of the increased pressure to perform well.

Males and females will do equally well in both classes, because stereotype vulnerability will apply only to perceived differences between races.
