Hi

Forests, for example, are vital for regulating water cycles and absorbing carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas. By taking too much from the forest without giving it time to replenish its resources eventually leads to floods, droughts, and imbalance in how much CO2 can be reabsorbed by plants.  Similarly, prairies, with their deep root systems, held onto valuable topsoil.  Plowing them under for agriculture led to soil erosion, reducing fertility and increasing dust storms.
