Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a pollutant produced mainly by coal and oil combustion. It is a toxic chemical in high concentrations and is a major contributor to acid precipitation, which adversely affects human health, buildings, and crop yields, among other things. However, SO2 in the atmosphere disperses incoming sunlight and thus may mediate atmospheric temperature increase. Would you favor relaxing pollution reduction regulations to help reduce global warming, as some have proposed? Discuss.
